This past Thursday, as in 2 days ago, I went to the Travel Clinic at Duke to get my shots for this summer. I walked out having received 7 shots - Yellow Fever, Typhoid, Hepatitis A, Meningitis, Polio, Seasonal Flu, and H1N1. I received 4 shots in my left arm and 3 shots in my right arm. I was a big girl and didn't flinch when receiving the shots. I actually find immunizations and other medical stuff fascinating. Besides, I give blood and the needle used when giving blood is much bigger than the needles used for shots. I also received my my prescriptions for Cipro (what I take if/when I have traveler's diarrhea) and Doxyclycline (what I take to help boost my immune system against malaria). By Friday morning, my arms ached and I had a horrible headache. I felt like I had been hit by a truck. I am not sure if it was from a combination of all of the shots or if it was from end of the semester exhaustion, but I was pretty worthless on Friday. It is now Saturday night and my left arm feels almost normal, but my right arm is still tender and is a little swollen. The pain is worth it especially if it prevents me from getting sick.
Classes are over and next week is Reading Week. I have 2 papers to write and 1 exam to go. The RAs and the two student councils I advise still have a lot of programs in the next 2 weeks so I will be busy. And exactly 1 month from today I will be beginning my journey to Uganda. I have a lot to do between now and then so I better get to work!
My life is an ongoing adventure. I started this blog to record my experiences in Uganda during the summer of 2010. As I am a recent graduate of Duke Divinity School and a nomad of sorts, I thought I would use this space to share with you my journey to becoming a bonafide "grown-up." "Grown-up" for me means having a full-time job, paying bills, and not living in a freshmen dorm. Check out my old posts from Uganda and stay tuned for new updates.

Hey Y'all
Welcome to my blog! I hope you are as excited to read this as I am to write about my adventures this summer. I want this to be a space where I can honestly share with you about my experiences - the good, the bad, and the funny! I know that this summer will be a challenge for me, but it is a challenge I am ready and willing to accept!
As of today, I have 37 days until I leave on a jet plane for Uganda. I will arrive in Uganda on Wednesday, May 26th and be there for 10 weeks. Needless to say, I have a LOT to do between May 24th and now. I have 1 more week of class to attend, 2 last papers to write, and 1 final exam to take before my 2nd year of Divinity School is officially over. The Divinity School's annual Broadway Revue show is this coming Wednesday. I have an appointment with the travel clinic this coming Thursday to get my shots and prescriptions. I still have to oversee 2 dorms of freshmen students and make sure they move out in a timely and semi-orderly fashion. I want to see family and friends before I leave. And I need to pack.
Thank you for showing interest in my life and in my summer. Much love to you all.
